Hi, I’m Helena!
My love for floral design began my freshman year at Mississippi State University at a time of reconsidering what I wanted to study. When registering for second semester classes, I was bummed to see the fine art I’d originally wanted was full - however, the class listed below it sounded interesting.. So, just for fun, I wound up in an introductory floral design course. Shortly thereafter, I made a call home that went something like “Hey, I’m changing my major.. I think I want to be a floral designer.. Oh, also I’m entering a competition in a few weeks and I’d really like you to come”. Well, my family showed up that weekend and surprisingly, one of my bouquets took first place in that competition. I suddenly had this confidence and feeling that this was the path I was meant to be on.
I constantly say how lucky and blessed I am to have a passion that found me.
In 2021, I graduated with a BS in Horticulture, which included a concentrated in Floral Management and minor in Business - I’m pretty proud of that. No, you don’t have to go to college to be a florist, but it’s something that had to happen for this little ‘happy accident’ career move. Let’s face it, you truly never know where life will take you!
Throughout college and after graduation, I found myself working in flower shops with some incredible mentors, freelancing for brilliant designers (including friends), eventually getting the courage to go out on a limb to begin something of my own.
All of these experiences led to the creation of Helena Brante Floral Design in 2022, built with the idea to curate unforgettable florals and memories for the North Georgia community and beyond.
Outside of Georgia, HBFD has taken us to Mississippi, Alabama and even Colorado!
After years of using my parents’ kitchen as a workshop (thanks, Mom and Dad!), we decided it was time for HBFD to have a home with me. So, I moved into a perfect little house in Kennesaw - where we built out our first official studio in 2024!
As for the rare occasions when I’m not doing something floral related.. You can find me at home with my better half, Ben, our loveable pup, Ruby, and cuddly kitty, Daphne. We’re counting down to our own wedding (EEK!), enjoying precious moments with family (including loving auntie/uncle life), and indulging sweet tooths (teeth??) while rewatching One Tree Hill. Life is blooming!
